Amazon’s New Bookstore?
Amazon opened it’s first bookstore in Seattle last week and book lovers across the nation collectively squealed! The online retail giant is remarkably bridging the gap between online purchasing and the in-store customer experience. Amazon’s customers and book enthusiasts (in Seattle) may be positively happy with this transition, but such a move is one that can (and will) transform the entire publishing industry.
Chadwick Cannon shares a few significant parts of Amazon Books brick and mortar move.
Pricing. “All prices within the bookstore match Amazon.com’s pricing, which means the consumer gets the touchy-feely “real life” experience of a bookstore, paired with the deep discounts of the dot com marketplace. Many book-buyers would say it’s the best of both worlds.”
Positioning. “For Amazon to intentionally place all books cover out means they’re carrying a smaller and more targeted selection, one that’s rooted in data. It’s a model that other traditional bookstores generally can’t compete with.”
Data. “Amazon’s bookstore only stocks product with four stars and above. Books are sorted by genre, number of stars, and buying behavior (such as “most wished-for books”).”

She Walks in Beauty — a poem by George Gordon Byron
She walks in Beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
