Blog Tips: Take Risks Every Day

One thing successful bloggers have in common is that they’re not afraid to take risks every day. And if they are afraid, they move past fear and do the things that scare them anyway.

How can I take risks within my blog or business every day?

Ramsay recommends that if you have a family to support or debts to pay off, make sure that you’re clever about any risks you may take. He notes that, “this is business, not gambling.” We agree! Ramsay further notes three ways he’s taken big blog risks and how they’ve paid off for him in the long run.

3 Ways to Take Risks (With Your Blog) Every Day

Focus on one site instead of many sites. Ramsay says that he initially wanted to make money by owning several seller sites. Hundreds of online entrepreneurs make a hefty living this way, but for most of us, this undertaking can be daunting and time consuming. Instead of overextending your risks this way, cut them down to one and focus on one site instead of many. Making this decision may seem risky at first, but for influencers like Ramsay, it is obvious that it pays off.

Launching a new responsive design. Getting a responsive design drastically enhances the reader’s experience. What makes them risky are the time and money you might spend, their performance, compatibility with old browsers, creating or updating new content and the development process. Since launching his new responsive blog design, Ramsay’s subscribers have dramatically increased and some ancillary benefits include better Google rankings.

Ask for help. You’re already a member of a thriving blog community. Look within and find supportive members who’ll help you take risks by giving you advice, guest posting opportunities, or endorsements on your blog, business or product.

Gratitude: 42 Easy Recipes for Thanksgiving Leftovers

You might be eating high on the hog (or bird) right now, but in two days, you’ll be begging for ways to spice up or get rid of those Thanksgiving leftovers. We found 42 easy ways to reconstruct your Turkey Day scraps into turkey pot pie, next day turkey soup or fried stuffing bites with cranberry pesto sauce. Rest your worries and head over to Food Network for these delectable leftover recipes.

10 Inspiring Quotes About Gratitude

“Gratitude is a currency that we can mint for ourselves, and spend without fear of bankruptcy.” Fred De Witt Van Amburgh

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” Oprah Winfrey

“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” Buddha

“I truly believe we can either see the connections, celebrate them, and express gratitude for our blessings, or we can see life as a string of coincidences that have no meaning or connection. For me, I’m going to believe in miracles, celebrate life, rejoice in the views of eternity, and hope my choices will create a positive ripple effect in the lives of others. This is my choice.” Mike Ericksen

“Gratitude is more of a compliment to yourself than someone else.” Raheel Farooq

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” William Arthur Ward

“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” Charles Dickens

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” Melody Beattie

“Silent gratitude isn’t very much to anyone.” Gertrude Stein

“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.” Henri Frederic Amiel

Amazon’s New Bookstore?

Amazon opened it’s first bookstore in Seattle last week and book lovers across the nation collectively squealed! The online retail giant is remarkably bridging the gap between online purchasing and the in-store customer experience. Amazon’s customers and book enthusiasts (in Seattle) may be positively happy with this transition, but such a move is one that can (and will) transform the entire publishing industry.

Chadwick Cannon shares a few significant parts of Amazon Books brick and mortar move.

Pricing. “All prices within the bookstore match’s pricing, which means the consumer gets the touchy-feely “real life” experience of a bookstore, paired with the deep discounts of the dot com marketplace. Many book-buyers would say it’s the best of both worlds.”

Positioning. “For Amazon to intentionally place all books cover out means they’re carrying a smaller and more targeted selection, one that’s rooted in data. It’s a model that other traditional bookstores generally can’t compete with.”

Data. “Amazon’s bookstore only stocks product with four stars and above. Books are sorted by genre, number of stars, and buying behavior (such as “most wished-for books”).”

Read Chadwick’s full write up on his blog.

Love Your Curls

Peace to You

With everything happening in the world, we just want to wish you peace, prayer and love.

She Walks in Beautya poem by George Gordon Byron

She walks in Beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Blog Tips: Define Your Goals

Define Your Goals

Hey bloggers, if you haven’t done it in awhile, take some time to (re) define your goals. You’ll thank yourself for it later.

Blogging is cool, but if you don’t know why you’re doing it, you’re already behind. Rule #1 with anything in life, especially blogging, is: you must define your goals (from the beginning). It’s okay if your goals change throughout your journey, but the key to sustainable success is having one to begin with. Knowing your why for maintaining a blog is what will keep you going when you’re ready to divorce your online digs.

Monique Malcolm of Keep Chasing the Stars shares 4 proven steps for achieving your goals. Today, we’re sharing a run down of those steps with you (with motivational snippets), but be sure to head to her blog for all her goodness.

1. Get clear on what you want.

“You can’t chase two outcomes. It leads to slow or no progress. Take some time (like days) to think about what you want.”

2. Determine the work that’s required to get what you want.

“Have you taken the time to come to terms with the work involved to make that happen? Are you aware of the extra hours, capital needed, skills and sacrifices required to pull it off?”

3. Prioritize the actions you must take.

“Your actions need to be in alignment with what you’re trying to achieve. When they aren’t you waste your most precious resource… TIME.”

4. Check-in regularly.

Checking in allows you to:

  • Assess your progress and correct course if needed.
  • Celebrate your wins.
  • Adjust as your vision shifts and unfolds.

So, now that you have this information, how will you define your goals?

Emoji Marketing is a thing!

Sprout Social, a social media software company, created an infographic and blog post about emoji marketing and its pretty awesome! It talks about the science of emoji marketing and how your brand can benefit from using them.

Here are a few key points:

1. The attention span of the average adult is no more than a couple of minutes. A study from Microsoft discovered people lose concentration after only eight seconds—that’s one second faster than a goldfish.

2. Today 63% of social media is made up of images. This has opened up a number of creative opportunities for marketers. One of the biggest visual trends to take the marketing world by storm is emoji.

3. 1,620 emojis are supported in iOS 9.1.

Sprout Social came with case studies that show how brands are using emojis, like The White House, Chevrolet, Goldman Sachs and more.

Blog Tips: Be Patient With Yourself

Be Patient With Yourself

Whether you’re a new or veteran blogger, extend yourself grace and be patient with the growth of your blog.

When new bloggers hit the scene, one of the first questions they ask is, “How do I grow a large following?” Enamored with the notion of having a popular blog, they stress over obtaining significant traffic and engagement without exercising the one skill they’ll truly need: patience.

Being patient with yourself in the beginning of your blogging career is paramount for its trajectory. That time is delicate and should be spent finding your voice, building trust from your readers and learning what they want. It is important not to compare your new beginnings to veteran bloggers dominating the game; this sense of inspiration can quickly diminish your confidence and cause you to lose track of why you started your blog.

Jeff Goins of Goins, Writer says that finding your voice is “the key to getting dedicated followers and fans and that it’s the only sustainable way to write. If you’re not being yourself, you’ll eventually burn out.” He then shares 10 amazing steps to finding your writing voice that reiterates this message: Be patient with yourself!

Be patient with yourself and trust your journey. Have faith and confidence in the process it takes to build an authentic and successful blog, no matter how long it takes. You got this!
